The Summer 2020 International Media Workshops in Florence, Italy, have redesigned under the umbrella of Globalization and Media

Two five-week summer session courses will be available.  Students will have the option of completing the entire course online or they may complete three weeks online and two-weeks in class in Florence, Italy.  Here is further information for those interested in completing the course in Italy: 

Depart U.S.: June 20, 2020
Arrive Florence: June 21, 2020
Depart Florence: July 4, 2020

Courses for Globalization and Media  2020 include:

COMM 426: Global Media Systems (3 units) Elective core course for Communications majors and elective course for Entertainment Studies majors
Dr. Anthony R. Fellow, Ph.D.

An international communications course which focuses on globalization and media and their impact on economics, politics, and culture.

COMM 300, Visual Communication (3 units) Elective core course for Communications majors
Professor Professor Micheal Mcalexander, MFA

Visual Communications is an exploration into the idea that memorable visual messages with text have the greatest power to inform, educate, and persuade an individual, a culture, and a society. This course is an attempt to discover why some images are remembered while most are not.

Cultural Activities

  • A full-day excursion to Parma. Transportation by private bus, with a visit to a balsamic vinegar maker, another food producer,  and the services of a professional guide and an AIFS staff escort throughout
  • A day excursion to the Chianti wine region.  Transportation by private bus, a tour of a winery, lunch and the services of an AIFS representative throughout; and
  • Talks by government and industry tourist officials.

  AIFS Program Costs : $2,575  (10-15 students) or $2,345 (16-24 students)  or $2105 (25-34 students) includes:

 INCLUDED

  •  Accommodations (shared student apartment) with free wireless;
  •  Day trip to Chianti;
  • 24/7 AIFS emergency service with both local number to reach on-site staff and toll-free number in the U.S.;
  • Each student on the program will be enrolled in the CISI insurance plan and global app. This insurance covers doctor visits, prescriptions, hospitalization and medical evacuation
  • Student medical and program fee refund insurance policies, as outlined in the AIFS insurance brochure
  • Coverage includes $100,000 accidental medical expense and $10,000 accidental death payment plus 24-hour emergency care; and
  • $51,000,000 liability coverage with additional insured for the duration of the program.

NOT INCLUDED

  • Round-trip airfare and in-country transfers for students – see Optional Components;
  • Passport or visa fees if applicable;
  • Meals other than those listed;
  • Personal expenses;
  • California State University Fullerton tuition or administrative fees;
  • Textbooks; and
  • Additional field trips and excursions to those listed.

OPTIONAL:

Airfare Package — a minimum of 10 participants is required for the group Airfare Package at $1,358.

  • Round-trip flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Florence (FLR) in economy class;
  • Round-trip transfers in Flodxrence between the airport and the student housing;AIFS staff meet-and-greet at the airport to assist on arrival and escort students to their housing;10+ students round-trip airfare, airport transfers & staff support, estimated taxes, fees & fuel fee (subject to change)

IRA Funds

Usually, Dr. Fellow is able to secure some $1,500 per student from IRA to help students lessen the cost of the program.
