This is a semester-long program. Students will begin courses online at the start of the CSU fall semester until they depart for Italy on Sept. 11.

Analyzes Italian films in terms of their formal elements and how they are shaped by the historical, cultural, political, social, and industry-related circumstances in which they are produced and received.
In addition, CSUF students also may enroll in any CSUF online course or a course offered by Cal State Long Beach, who are partners in this semester-long program. The study abroad at CSUF will provide assistance in applying for Cal State Long Beach courses. The fall 2020 Long Beach courses will include opera and music courses.
AIFS Program Costs : $7,825 which includes the following:
Accommodation and Meals
- Accommodation: twin-bedded rooms within a shared apartment. Centrally located, maximum 30 minutes travel time to the AIFS Center, with shared kitchen and living space and laundry facilities on-site. Linens and towels, and free wireless internet are provided.
- Meals: self-catering facilities at student accommodation, a welcome meal, a farewell meal.
In-Country Student Support
- An orientation program in Florence consisting of a meeting with experienced AIFS staff, covering topics such as general acclimation to Florence, safety and security issues, cultural differences, travel, money and cultural activities;
- Local area walking tour covering housing and classroom location and local amenities;
- Half-day sightseeing tour of Florence with the services of a professional, English-speaking guide;
- Workshops with local staff about life in Florence and the differences the students will encounter;
- A team of experienced Student Services staff to ensure the smooth running of the program, providing information and advice to students, organizing excursions and supervising housing;
- 24-hour on-call service in Florence for the duration of the program;
- Access to the AIFS Student Center with free internet access and printing facilities; and
- Official Police registration fees and local insurances.
Academic Support
- One classroom available Monday to Thursday as per the class schedule. Exact times and dates to be decided between AIFS and the California State University, Fullerton faculty;
- Facilities available: flip chart, projector, laptop, speakers, white boards & pens, set up assistance, etc.;
- Optional internship placements. AIFS will assist in finding appropriate placements for students in Florence; however, they should be aware that places are limited and may be dependent on a student’s Italian language ability;
- A beginners Italian language course (60 hours) taught by local qualified adjunct faculty;
- 50 Euro per student academic activities fee. This amount will be used to book additional activities as agreed by California State University, Fullerton faculty. AIFS will book activities and provide a detailed summary of expenditure to California State University, Fullerton at the end of the program;
- Reserved entrance to the Uffizi Gallery with the services of a professional, English- speaking guide; and
- Reserved entrance to the Pitti Palace with the services of a professional, English- speaking guide.
Cultural Activities and Excursions
- A weekly program of subsidized cultural activities of typical events such as cooking class, wine tasting, soccer match, a day trip to Pisa, etc.;
- A full-day excursion to Chianti by private bus, with a visit to a winery and a typical Tuscan lunch;
- A full-day excursion to Siena and San Gimignano including round-trip transportation by private bus and the services of a professional, English-speaking guide in Siena; and
- A three-day, two-night excursion to Rome including round-trip transportation by train, accommodation in twin bedded rooms in a centrally located, tourist class hotel with daily breakfast, reserved entrance to the Colosseum and Roman Forum and the Vatican Museums with the services of a professional, English-speaking guide, entrance and guided English language tour to Cinecittà, metro tickets as needed, and the services of an AIFS Tour Manager for the duration of the trip. No meals other than breakfast will be included.
NOT INCLUDED The student fee does not include the following items:
- Passport or visa fees if applicable (Visas are not required for a 90-day stay);
- Meals other than those listed;
- Personal expenses;
- California State University, Fullerton tuition or administrative fees;
- Textbooks;
- Additional fieldtrips and excursions to those listed; and
- Anything not specified.
OPTIONAL COMPONETS
Airfare Package (a minimum of 10 participants is required for the group Airfare Package)
- Round-trip flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Florence (FLR) in economy/standard class;
- Round-trip transfers in Florence between the airport and the student housing;
- AIFS staff meet-and-greet at the airport to assist on arrival and escort students to their housing;
- The airfare package is optional to student participants and offered on a space-available basis;
- AIFS will reserve spaces at the above prices according to information on the student online enrollment form. Once airline tickets have been issued to students, they can only be changed directly with the issuing agent – agent and airline-imposed penalties apply;
- AIFS cannot arrange airline tickets for students applying after Thursday, June 18, 2020; and
- AIFS is financially committed to any confirmed airlines seats from Wednesday, June 3, 2020, and therefore an airfare review will take place prior to this date. AIFS requests that California State University Fullerton provide an indication of how many students intend to purchase the transportation package listed above. However, should California State University Fullerton decide not to offer this transportation package to their students, AIFS must be notified before Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
Meal Plan
• 25-vouchers for use at local restaurants in site. The vouchers can be used for breakfast, lunch or dinner at selected restaurants. They have no cash value and must be exchanged for the set menu. Dietary requirements are catered for at a limited number of restaurant options.
Insurance Upgrade
• Optional Extra Protection Insurance Coverage, including increased medical insurance and/or personal effects insurance as outlined in the AIFS insurance brochure.

The 2020 Summer International Media Workshops in Florence: Globalization and Media
This is a five-week summer session course. Students will have the option of completing the entire class o line or they may complete three weeks online and two-weeks in class in Florence, Italy. Here is further information for those interested in completing the course in Italy:

- Talks by government and industry tourist officials.

- Each student on the program will be enrolled in the CISI insurance plan and global app. This insurance covers doctor visits, prescriptions, hospitalization and medical evacuation
- Student medical and program fee refund insurance policies, as outlined in the AIFS insurance brochure
- Coverage includes $100,000 accidental medical expense and $10,000 accidental death payment plus 24-hour emergency care as
- $51,000,000 liability coverage with additional insured for the duration of the program.
